This album is a collection of instrumental songs. A lot of them were imagined with vocals but never found words. Some of them are explorations that were never intended to have words. The compositions cover the years 2006-2010, and many are a result of Andy's exploration of the virtual instruments in Apple's Logic Pro, which he bought in 2005. Andy gravitates toward the natural sounds of the sampled pianos, basses, and cellos, as well as models of the classic Fender Rhodes vibes, Hammond B3 organ, and Hohner Clavinet. There are also a lot of songs with guitar front and center.

Jon plays drum kit on "these days", "mayers", "preambulator", and "reggae organ". The female vocals on "stay the course" are from a patch in Logic Pro 7's EXS24 sampler. Andy plays all other instruments. Recorded and produced by Andy with Logic Pro on an Apple PowerBook G4 or MacBook Pro (17-inch, early 2009).

These virtual instruments and sequencers are our modern cymbal monkeys, our somewhat musical robots.

Years of Activity:

There are cassette tapes by "The Andy Band" dating back to 1979, when Andy was 14 years old, and he is still an avid recording musician. Sometimes The Andy Band is all about "hit record and go" improvisation, other times it's all about one-man-band multi-tracking in the studio. Since 2010, Andy has been playing some of these songs live near his new home in Vermont at open mics. He relishes the thrill of improvising with an audience, as well as singing three-part harmonies and playing bass with players there. But he also loves building up a song with layers and layers of Andys, singing and playing everything.
