bullfrogs and fireworks2006.06.30Jon - drums Andy - acoustic guitar, programmed percussion and drums, programmed piano, real bass, acoustic lead guitar At Jon's house June 30, 2006. Liz and twins at Bonaparte, Jon and I jammin'. The night after the jam, late night Sat. July 1, 2006: wow, discovered Logic does "beat mapping". This lets me set the metronome to us playing by constantly making small adjustments to the tempo by drawing a line between the metronome ruler marks and marks made for transients in the kick, snare, agit tracks (whatever I tell it to analyze). Wow that made things go from good to awesome. I added an Apple Loop, "Conga Groove 10", and then dropped in a MIDiI loop "World Bongo 03" that was bongos in the loop browser but I used it on an UltraBeat track with the 2-step drum kit and a Sculpture track with the "Tribal Drums" patch. I even copied it to an EXS24 "Grand Piano" track and added some chords. That's mix 1. Another night, I added chords to take the progression from 2 chords to a longer 8-bar pattern, for some parts. Some night I wrote that beautiful piano part for the 2 crescendos, just clicking in the Matrix Editor. Late July 5 (Wed) I recorded real bass, the Ibanez Roadstar II direct through the Firepod. That made mix 2. in the afternoon of July 13 (Thu), I recorded an acoustic guitar overdub (the Earthworks SR77 up close through the Symetrix preamp and S/PDIF, the Rode NT-1A a bit more than 2 feet away through the Firepod). That makes mix 3, what ended up the final mix. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
circles2006.06.30Jon - drums Andy - acoustic guitar, programmed piano, programmed percussion, real bass, electric lead guitar, vocals Another that started with a jam at Jon's on June 30, 2006. After a session or two of beat mapping back in mangobananas studio to get a click in sync with us, I laid in some synth piano and percussion, some real bass (direct thru Firepod), some real Les Paul (thru POD patch 1B into Firepod) on Monday afternoon, July 17. Late night I came back to it and ... played with the verses, which I couldn't remember while jammin' with Jon, so I found the feature "Insert Time and Move by Locators" to make room for the full progression. I laid that out on the EVB3 in the Matrix Editor, did some piano skanking on that, repeated Jon's bits. This is cool! That is mix 2, and it's a birthday present to myself. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
j-funk2006.06.30Jon - drums Andy - acoustic guitar, overdubs of programmed clavinets Base track from the improv at Jon's house on June 30, 2006. Overdubs back at mangobananas studios. That wah clav patch is funky. One track is playing bass, a second track (panned more to the right) is playing chords. Funkosity! 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
paradise2005.05.21Jon - drums Andy - 5 guitar tracks: strat (w/ drums, chorused clean), bass, L&R acoustics, strat (heavy) This is the first track Jon and I jammed out together 5/21/2005, a great night of jamming just drums and guitar in my den (B visiting E in CT). Drums recorded with 6 mics - kick (NAD KBM412), snare (Earthworks SR77), L overhead (Rode NT1-A), R overhead (AT2020), rack toms (SM57), and floor tom (SM57). My old AudioSpectrum SM58 knockoff was used for the vocals, and it was pointed too much towards the drums and got a lot of harsh drum noise. But the vocal track is pretty precious in a way, so I've mixed it best I can. Guitar was the Strat through the POD (9D? not sure of the patch) into the Firepod direct. Overdubs done in the wee hours, first bass (direct into Firepod), then two acoustic guitars (Earthworks SR77), then heavy electric (POD 1A patch into Firepod). Rough mix Saturday night, refined Monday 5/23 at work. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
riffage jam2005.05.21Jon - drums Andy - strat, bass, two more strats Base is me and Jon jamming 5/21/2005. Made mix 1 Saturday night, 5/21, getting quite drunk. Made mix 2 Sunday night 5/29, just a few level tweaks. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
island 292005.05.21+27Jon - drums Andy - 3 guitars and bass (strat (w/drums, chorused 9C?), bass [DADG], strat solo (9D, with mda circle panner), les paul clickity bits (1D)) Awesome reggae groove jammed out Sat night 5/21/2005. Overdubs started Monday night (5/23) with bass [DADG] doing a killer low riff. Then a loopy little solo track circling around the head and echoing. This is going somewhere cool. Friday morning 5/27/05, B&I taking a vacation day, I got up at 6:30 or so and re-did the bass part. The last note of the riff was kicked, but the kick drum wasn't, so I held back and got on it and it sounds great. I did a bit more experimentation with little riffs, too, and I like it. Then I also decided the mda Stereo things created digital clipping that was harsh, so I took that off the guitar and bass. I instead did my usual manual double-track by copying and shifting. Then I did a new guitar track with my Les Paul through patch 1D of the POD, playing mostly little clicky bits that sound great. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg

lively jam2005.05.21+28Jon - drums Andy - guitar (strat w/ 9D patch, with drums), bass, guitar (les paul, POD 9D tweaked to tremolo w/ speed & intensity adjustments) Improv jam 5/21/2005. Overdubs and mix 1 made 5/28 late night. This is really jammin'! 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
the kicker2005.05.21+29Jon - drums Andy - guitar (strat w/ drums), bass Started with an improv jam 5/21/2005. Just the bass sounds damn good, overdubbed Sunday late, 5/29. Mix 1 made. mda Stereo on the guit, some 60 Hz EQ (+5db) on the bass. But this is too long with nothing really interesting happening. Either needs good words, either layered guitar doing harmonically interesting stuff. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
staying up all night2005.05.21+29Jon - drums Andy - guitar (strat w/ drums), bass Started with an improv jam 5/21/2005. Overdubbed bass and mixed 5/29.704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
aldi belgian beer2005.05.21+29Jon - drums Andy - guitar (strat w/ drums), bass Started with an improv session 5/21/2005. Just bass overdub for mix 1, 5/29 late. Kept it short and simple. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
smoked porter2005.05.21Jon - drums Andy - guitar (strat w/ drums), bass [AADG]. This is a strange one, short. Started with the improv session 5/21/2005. I added bass with the low E dropped down to a very low A. I duped the guitar track and shifted it a bit late. Then I duped it and reversed the dupliicate and shifted it around until it sounded kinda cool, especially with the mda RoundPan plugin moving it around. Strange but kinda cool. 704bullfrog paradiseThe Andy Bandhttp://mangobananas.com/img/icons/jonjam5.jpg
